The Mark of Perfection - Diamond Clarity

Diamond clarity measures the presence of natural inclusions and surface blemishes formed during the stone’s creation deep within the Earth. These internal characteristics are unique to each diamond, making every piece one of a kind. The fewer the inclusions, the clearer and more visually pure the diamond appears β€” allowing light to pass through effortlessly for enhanced brilliance.

Most clarity characteristics are microscopic and invisible to the naked eye. However, their presence and placement can influence how light travels through the diamond, subtly affecting its sparkle and overall appearance.

Nature’s Signature

Inclusions are often referred to as nature’s fingerprints, formed under extreme heat and pressure over millions of years. These can include tiny crystals, feathers, or clouds within the diamond. While they are a natural part of a diamond’s formation, high clarity diamonds have minimal inclusions, ensuring a cleaner and more refined look.

Expert craftsmanship and careful selection ensure that these internal features do not interfere with the diamond’s beauty, maintaining its brilliance and elegance.

Understanding the Clarity Scale

Diamond clarity is graded on a scale ranging from Flawless (FL) to Included (I). At the highest end, Flawless diamonds show no visible inclusions even under magnification, making them extremely rare. Slightly lower grades such as VVS (Very Very Slightly Included) and VS (Very Slightly Included) offer exceptional clarity with inclusions that are nearly impossible to detect without magnification.

Diamonds in the SI (Slightly Included) range often provide excellent value, as their inclusions are typically not visible to the naked eye while still maintaining strong brilliance.

Clarity & Visual Beauty

While clarity contributes to a diamond’s rarity, it does not always have the greatest impact on its visible beauty. Many diamonds with minor inclusions appear perfectly clear when viewed without magnification, especially when paired with an excellent cut.

Choosing the right clarity grade is about balancing purity with value β€” ensuring your diamond looks stunning while making a smart investment.

Perfectly Balanced

We at Valam select diamonds with clarity grades that ensure exceptional visual purity β€” because true beauty lies in what you see, not just what is measured.
